400 Years of Silence

How have we wearied him? By saying that evil is good, that it pleases God. Or by saying God won't punish us-he doesn't care." Malachi(TLB)

History records four hundred years of silence between the last Jewish prophet, Malachi, and the birth of Jesus. Why would God stop speaking to his chosen people? What could cause him to stop speaking to the children of Abraham? How long would you spend in a conversation with someone who is ignoring you?

The Lord stopped speaking to the children of Israel because they were no longer listening to him. Jehovah is long suffering and patient, but when he has told us what he wants us to do, and we have not taken even a single step towards following his will for our lives, eventually he will let us go our own way, and he will no-longer try to speak with us.

But we never need to suffer through silence from the Master. His Word tells us he longs to speak to us, and to share with us what is on his heart. He is always ready to listen to us. He is always ready to speak to us. But only when we have the desire to do what he says and to try to please him with the way we live our lives. if the Father has stopped speaking to you, perhaps it is because he is waiting on you to do what he has already said.
