"And Jesus Wept." John 11:35(NLT)
It is the shortest verse in the Bible. It is an impossible roadblock to those who claim the Messiah was all God and No Man. It is the most human of all emotions.
The news was no surprise to the Teacher. He had known how sick his friend Lazarus was. Mary and Martha, his sisters, had sent an urgent message to Jesus days before. The result was not unexpected. Lazarus was dead.
Have you ever wondered if God cries? We know that Jesus loved his friend. When the news came of his death, Jesus responded as anyone who lost a good friend would have. He wept! His heart grieved! Even though Christ knew that he planned to restore life to his friend, he deeply felt the loss of Lazarus.
Does the Father cry when he looks down at his creation? Does he weep when he sees the dark veil of evil covering his planet, causing so much of it to lie in Spiritual darkness? Does he mourn when he observes his people, who are supposed to take the light of the Good News of Jesus Christ to this sin-darkened world, selfishly refuse to share the light with others?
Sin is a malignant cancer that eats away at the very foundation of our world. But we have the cure for this malady. The light passed to us by Our Messiah was given to us so that we would take that challenge, when we ignore the Great Commission, we make Our Heavenly Father cry, and his tears flow freely from Heaven to this dark and dying planet.
