“When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside me, his close friend, he said to her “Here is your son.” And to me he said “She is your mother!” And from then on I took her into my home. John 19:26-27 (TLB)
One of the Ten Commandments is to honor your father and mother. Jesus first, reluctant, miracle of turning water into wine was done to honor the request of his mother. Maybe it is this happy time Mary thinks back to as she watches her son die, powerless to do anything about it.
It is almost finished. The plan has almost completed. Just one more detail left. Just before Christ’s tortured, broken, and bent body will shut down, just before he dismisses his soul, he makes sure his mother is cared for. Life was very difficult for women at that time in Jewish History. But, one of Jesus last acts was to honor his mother, Mary, the blessed one, by assuring she would be taken care of.
