“Then the angel spoke to the women. Don’t be Frightened, He Said! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified, but he isn’t here, For he has come back to life again, just as he said he would. Come in and see where the Body was lying…” Matthew 28: 5-7 (TLB)
As the sun rose over Solomon’s Temple, 2007 years ago, the Jewish leaders inside were hearing something that couldn’t be true. If there was one thing they didn’t want to hear, it was this. If there was one thing they refused to believe, it was this. If there was one thing that filled them with fear, it was this. Jesus was alive!
If there was one thing Peter hoped for, it was this. If there was one thing Peter prayed for, it was this. If there was one thing he longed to hear, it was this. If there was one thing that Peter longed to believe, it was this. Jesus was alive!
If there was thing the soldiers couldn’t explain, this was it. If there was one thing the soldiers couldn’t believe, it was this. If there was one thing the soldiers had to lie about, it was this. Jesus was alive!
If there was one thing that Lucifer was sure of, it was that Christ was dead. If there was one thing Satan couldn’t believe, it was this. If there was one thing that made Beelzebub’s blood turn to ice water, it was this. If there was one thing that was impossible, it was this! Jesus was alive!
As the sun rises over the lush valley on a warm Sunday morning, 2007 years later and a world away, a broken man walks the aisle of a tiny, weather-beaten church. Reaching the altar, as the ancient organ and ancient voices fill the church with “Amazing Grace”, he falls to his knees. Hatred, bitterness, and anger are left at the altar. If there is one thing he knows, it is, we serve a risen savior!
