Jonah: the Reluctant Prophet

"In my great trouble I cried to the Lord and he answered me from the depths of death. I called, and Lord you heard me" Jonah 2:2

God has given Jonah an assignment. But God had not asked for volunteers. He had given Jonah an assignment to go to Nineveh to warn them that if they didn't stop their wicked ways, they would be destroyed, like Sodom and Gomorrah. Jonah did not want to warn them, he wanted to watch God destroy it! "Why don't you just destroy it and be done with it, Jonah whined. When Jonah did get to Nineveh, via a whale, he was hoping they would ignore him.

But as Jonah preached, the people began to see their sins. Everyone from the King down fasted, prayed, and wore sackcloth . The Lord accepted their cry, he saw their repentance. Jehovah decided to spare the city. Jonah did not like this at all. He stormed off a climbed up a hill to pout.
