“I am in Christ, a new creation, old things have passed away; Behold, all things have become new.” II Corinthians 5:17
Something magical happens to us when we are born again. Our old self, that long, hard, and brutal winter is gone. Just as the seasons change from the death and barrenness of winter to the blooming flowers of spring, we have gone from death unto life. We are moved out of the cold spiritual darkness we were trapped in and placed in the soothing warm light of our Creator.
This transformation was made possible only at a painfully high cost. God's only begotten Son, Jesus, shed his life blood to give us this opportunity. We were dead in our sins. We were enemies to our Creator. The Father was sickened when He looked upon us. It took a terrible and horrible act to give us the beautiful and wonderful peace we carry deep in our souls. From the darkest event in human history sprang the most beautiful future we can imagine. We are given a right relationship with Our Maker while we serve Him in our earthly life and a promise of spending eternity in His very presence.
When a convicted murder on death row awaits his just punishment, and all his court appeals are over, only one man can save him. Without the intervention of the Governor, he will die for his actions. The Eternal Word tells us that all have fallen short of the glory of God. Everyone stands convicted of sin in the eyes of The Master. Only one man can save us. The Holy and blameless One who was both God and Man. Without the intervention of Our Deliverer, we will die for our offenses against The Lord of Hosts.
In ancient Israel, a family member could reclaim family land lost due to debt. Through the intervention and benevolence of this man, the land was redeemed. The debt of the family was paid in full. This person was called a Kinsman Redeemer. Jesus Christ is our Kinsman Redeemer. The King of Kings has redeemed our eternal souls from our just punishment. Christ is our Kinsman Redeemer. We are brought into His family and sealed as His by the Holy Spirit. The Word assures us that even the gates of Hell will not prevail against us.
