Pride Comes Before the Fall

“Tell those who are rich not to be proud and trust in their money; which will soon be gone, but their pride and their trust should be in the living God who always richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. I Timothy 6:17 (TLB)

When God blesses someone, whether it is spiritually or financially, he expects us to pass some of that blessing on to others. He also expects us to remember the source of the blessing and not forget that just as quickly as he gave it; he can take it right back.

We are also warned numerous times in his holy scriptures to be keeping a close eye out for pride. One of the enemy’s greatest feats is to puff us up all full of pride, as he convinces us that “we did this on our own.” Why should we share this with God or others? Let them make their own money; let them earn their own honors.

Pride is a sin. How many of us have known those who strut around like peacocks telling everyone about all the good they are doing, or asking for roads or university buildings to be named for them. The Word leaves no doubt, they are getting all their rewards now, so they should enjoy the adulation of men, because they will have nothing saved in the Bank of Jesus Christ.
