The Lifeblood of Prayer

“Pray without ceasing.” 1st Thessalonians 5:17

How do you feel as you approach prayer? Do you hurry through it, as if it is just one more thing on a long “to do” list? Do you mindlessly repeat the same rote prayer over and over? Do you pray out of a sense of obligation, or do you petition the Master with a sense of great anticipation? Do you allow God to speak back to you, or do you spend all your prayer time talking to Him?

Our prayer life is the lifeblood of a believer. It is our source of power. Through our heavenly petitions, we can change the world! We should be in awe of the power of prayer in a believer’s life. We can walk boldly into the throne room of the Keeper of the Stars and speak with Him! This is a privilege given to believers only.

What can prayer do? Through his petitions, Elijah called down fire from heaven for the glory of God. Through prayer, the Israelites were delivered out of slavery with the Egyptians. Through His plea to the Father, Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead! Through his entreaty, King Solomon became the wisest man that ever lived! Through his heavenly plea, Moses made water flow from a rock. Through my heavenly appeal, my entire life was changed and I was saved from the fires of Hell and brought back into a right relationship with The King of Kings!

Prayer is our supernatural, high voltage power source that flows from the throne room of God Himself and into the body of every believer. A Christian with a poor prayer life is a Christian without power. Why does the Bible say to petition the Father without ceasing? Because Our Master knows that outside of His power, we can do no nothing. We can not even save ourselves, much less a sinful and corrupt world.

What then, must we do? We simply must remember that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
