The Old Man Is Dead:
Stop Taking Orders from a Corpse

“They can see you are a letter from Christ, written by us. It is not a letter written with pen and ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not one carved on stones, but in human hearts.” 2 Corinthians 3:3 (NIV)

Paul is writing to the church at Corinth. He is praising them for the good they are known for. He is saying the outside will be affected by what’s going on inside. We know that all the evil comes from inside our sinful and worldly hearts. If you are trying to hide sin in your life, if you store up hate in your heart, if you ask forgiveness from Jesus but fail to forgive those who have sinned against you, it will show on the outside. You will be a letter about sin and evil and hopelessness.

Have you conquered those urges of the dead old man? Are you still under his wretched and sadistic control? When people see you, do they see the reflections of hate and anger and lust? When you accepted Jesus Christ, that old man passed away. So, if the dried bones of the person you USED TO BE are still your master, you have been grave robbing. Jesus Christ killed that old man 2007 years ago, when he gained victory over Death and Hell. Christ buried him deep. He did not intend for you to sneak in one night and dig him up. So stop digging in the cemetery and start digging into God’s Word for the treasures it holds. Let yourself be read by others as a letter, a love letter, from Christ, to the world that cries out for him.
