The Man Who Never Saw Death

“Enoch was sixty five years old when his son Methuselah was born. Afterwards he lived another 300 years in fellowship with God, and produced son’s and daughters; then, when he was 365, and in constant contact with God, he disappeared, for God took him.” Genesis 5:21-24 (TLB)

In all of human history, there has been one constant that almost everyone faces. They die. They pass from this world into the next. There are two exceptions to this rule. Both are recorded in the Holy Scriptures. Most people probably know one, Elijah the Prophet. But the Book of Genesis tells us long before Elijah, there was Enoch, who walked with God and never saw death. Enoch remained in constant fellowship with Jehovah. The Father was the first one he spoke to in the morning, and the last one he spoke to at night. Enoch was in constant contact with the Lord. Enoch was in constant prayer with the Lord, and he never fell out of fellowship with God, but honored Him in actions and deeds.

What an amazing thing it would be, to be that close to the Father! But we can be! Our Master longs for fellowship with us. The closeness that Enoch shared with God is ours to have too, the love he felt from the Father waits and longs for us to claim it. Each one of us can have a close, personal relationship with God. This year, may we search our hearts and our minds, removing anything that blocks intimacy with our Father. We may not “walk right into Heaven”, but the closeness that God shared with Enoch is there for us, all we must do is ask.
