"Look, I have been standing at the door and constantly knocking, if anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and have fellowship with him, and him with me." Revelation 3:20 (TLB)
Tap, tap, tap. Tap, tap, and tap. Do you hear that gentle knocking? Will you let him in? Or will you pretend not to hear, hoping he'll go away?
The Scriptures tell us that Christ will not force his way into our lives. Jesus will only enter those hearts that open the door to him. God has designed a place in everyone's heart that has been reserved for his son, the Messiah. Some will try to fill that hunger with worldly things. But Peter tells us we have had more than enough of the temporary pleasures of this world. Our season of rebellion must end. We must open the door to our hearts and let our Deliverer come in and thoroughly scrub our hearts and minds with the body that was broken for us and the blood that was shed for us.
If we don't, he will eventually leave us. He will grant our wish, even though it breaks his heart. He will let us stand alone on earth. He will stop knocking. But do not be deceived, if we stand alone on earth, we will stand alone before the Father on Judgment Day. Some will cry "Lord! Lord!" But Christ will answer with the piercing, penetrating, soul shattering words "Depart from me, I never knew you."
Jesus, I am tired of carrying my sins around. I am tired of the guilt, the shame, and the stench of sin. Please come into my heart, Jesus. I am opening the door for you. Amen.
